The More Things Change
Synopsis
Gerry Lopez: The More Things Change. When surfing legend Gerry Lopez first discovered the fabled wave at Uluwatu, Bali in 1974, it was a pristine, magical, and virtually empty break. Forty years later, he returns to find the coastline transformed — bustling, developed, and crowded — yet still possessing a spirit that endures. Over the course of a week of surfing, yoga, and reflection, Lopez reconnects with the essence of the place that first captured his soul and explores the broader meaning of change, continuity, and living in the moment. Supporting environmental efforts like Project Clean Uluwatu, the film uses Uluwatu as a metaphor for life’s ever‑shifting nature while celebrating the timeless connection between people, place, and the ocean. Official Selections 2016: London Surf Film Festival, Maui Film Festival, Anglet Surf Film Festival.
