Synopsis

No Static In The Stars is a curated collection of 14 short films centred around the ocean, bringing together surf, art-house, documentary, and experimental oceanography works. The project, conceived by filmmaker Andrew Kidman and Spunk Records’ Aaron Curnow, presents a unique exploration of surf culture and ocean-inspired creativity through a series of visually distinct segments. Each film approaches the ocean from a different perspective—blending surfing, art, music, and natural observation into a cohesive cinematic experience. Featuring surfers and artists such as Craig Anderson, Ryan Burch, Creed McTaggart, and Ellis Ericson, the film reimagines the surf genre as a broader artistic expression rather than a traditional action sports documentary.
