Synopsis

‘The Mountain Runners’ is the Emmy-Nominated, true story of America’s first adventure race. First held in 1911, the race pit a stripped-down steam train against modified “Model-T” autos and fourteen amateur athletes against Mount Baker, a 10,781 foot volcanic, glacial peak in the North Cascades Mountain Range. Told in a docudrama style, the film incorporates hundreds of vintage images, historic film, special effects, recreated dramatizations staring William B. Davis (The X-Files, The Smoking Man) and narration by Kevin Tighe (LOST, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape). The film includes interviews with multiple contemporary champion athletes and authors, including alpine speed-climbers and climbing author, Steve House and Chad Kellogg; ultra runners Krissy Moehl, Scott Jurek, and Doug McKeever; and author Cami Ostman, reveal a look back at the accomplishments of their endurance-athlete predecessors with astonishment.
